The CASBY Awards had another great line up this year with 604 Record's Theory of a Deadman starting things off. They were followed by new act Boy and Winnipeg's Waking Eyes who added a little Jazz flavour to their sound with Rusty playing the Trumpet.

The host for the evening was Tom Green who is back in the music scene rapping with his new band "Keepin' It Real Crew". They quickly had the fans on their side tossing out several hundred stuff animals.

Toronto's Metric took the stage with their mix of '80s synthesizers with today's grunge/punk. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Emily Haines has the right voice, style and appearance to front this band.

The Bedouin Soundclash offer a unique style of reggae mixed with the Clash. Their popularity is quickly rising and guys, quite apologizing because you are not rock, don't forget you were there because it is Canadian Artists Selected By You, your fans wanted you there and for good reason.

The stuffed animals idea was well received but I am not sure who thought of tossing loaves of bread into the audience. This quickly turned into a fiasco, with many in the audience forming balls with bread slices and testing out their fastballs. To encourage them one of the Edge personalities decided to challenge someone to hit him where it counts. The audience quickly responsded, unfortunately several of the female quests on stage ended up seeking shelter as they received impact on their lady lumps. The silliness reached it's height when Keepin' It Real Crew decided to hand the audience grilled scrambled egg sandwiches... let's take a poll from the very hard working stage crew on how much they appreciated the frivolities.

The Trews were next to take the stage. These guys are good, and getting better. Their music and stage presence continues to grow. Next up was Halifax's Sloan. The veterans are well polished. They definitely provided one young fan a few moments he will never forget. Chris Murphy grabbed the young guy out of the audience and brought him up on stage to show is stuff.

One of the fan's favourites, Victoria's Hot Hot Heat finished the award's performances leaving the audience wound up and wanting more. This year Molson's sponsored an after awards party for all those of drinking age. Accolades must go out to The Edge for continuing to provide a avenue for up and coming bands.
