This is not an official bio on RUSH but more one person's quick write up on arguably
one of Canada's greatest contributions to the international music scene. RUSH's first studio album was released in 1974 and was self titled. This was the only CD that featured, "John Rutsey" on Drums and Vocals. This album also brought together RUSH and Terry Brown, together they would be responsible for RUSH's first 10 albums. As mentioned on the CD cover, special thanks went to Donna Halper for her great support in giving RUSH airtime!!! (Thanks from ALL RUSH fans...) TCMS does not have the true facts nor will we speculate but John Rutsey decided to leave RUSH. He was replaced by Neil "The Professor" Peart who's writing style and talent on the kit had a dramtic and immediate influence on the band. The next three albums all featured epic tales, "By-Tor and The Snow Dog", "The Fountain of Lamneth", and RUSH's anthem, "2112". RUSH has always been knowen for there hard work in touring to support their albums. In 1976 they produced their first "Live" album titled, "All The World's A Stage". In 1977 the release of "A Farewell To Kings" brought a dramitc change to the texture of the RUSH sound. Technology started to play an increasingly important role in the RUSH sound. Guitar special effects were joined by Bass Pedals and synthesizers. The Professer showed he was not just a master of the kit and words by throwing in a vast array of percussion instruments. I remember anxiously waiting and anticipating (as I still do) RUSH's next album, wondering what they could do, if they could, to amaze me! I for one was not disappointed! |

As Neil brought creative talent to the song writing of RUSH, Hugh Syme was displaying
his creative genius at designing albums. The haunting eyes of an owl, the red star, and a puppet king surronded by his decaying kingdom, and for those that have a copy, Permanant Waves with the embarrasing cover of the Chicago Tribune (I do believe) containing the headline, "Dewey Defeats Truman" which after a certain time period has been replaced with whiteout! A question for RUSH fans, "Who do you think is the man on the Permanent Waves Cover waving at Oh-La-La?" Your guess... |
