The 2005 Canadian Music Week started off with the 5th Canadian Independant Music Awards or more affectionately known as "The Indies". The sold-out crowd anxiously awaited the beginning of The Indies. Niagara Fall's, The Trews, winners of the Favourite Album of the Year got the night off to a great start. Unlike most award shows The Indies presented some of their bigger awards right at the beginning. The evening was hosted by CBC's Jian Ghomeshi and featured other great performances by; The Great Lake Swimmers, Martha and the Muffins, and Thornley. After the awards presentations were completed, there were performances by Controller.Controller and Esthero.
